Terms & Conditions

The terms on which Sentinel is provided to subscribing organisations and their users.

Last updated: 4 August 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern access to and use of the Sentinel platform at app.sentinel-insi.org and this website ("the Service"). The Service is operated by the International News Safety Institute (INSI) ("we", "us"). By accessing the Service you agree to these terms on your own behalf and, where applicable, on behalf of the organisation that arranged your access ("your Organisation").

2. Access and accounts

3. Acceptable use

The Service exists to support journalist safety and editorial decision-making. You agree not to:

4. Content and intelligence

The Service aggregates and analyses publicly available material and presents alerts, classifications and summaries generated in part by automated systems, including artificial intelligence. This intelligence is provided to inform professional judgement — it is not a substitute for it. We do not warrant that any item is complete, current or accurate, and safety decisions should always be corroborated. Underlying third-party content remains the property of its publishers and is referenced for verification.

5. Your content

Content your users create in the Service (notes, briefs, configurations) belongs to your Organisation. You grant us the licence needed to host and process it solely to provide the Service.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design and branding, is owned by or licensed to INSI. These terms grant no rights other than the right to use the Service as intended while your access remains active.

7. Privacy

Our processing of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

8. Availability and changes

We aim for high availability but the Service is provided "as is" and may be interrupted for maintenance, security response or circumstances beyond our control. We may improve or modify features; material reductions in service to subscribing organisations will be communicated in advance where reasonably possible.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law. Subject to that, INSI shall not be liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss of data arising from use of, or inability to use, the Service; and INSI's aggregate liability in respect of the Service shall be limited to the fees (if any) paid by your Organisation for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory law in your place of establishment provides otherwise.
